Home Brew News No. 1

1st October 2008

Welcome to our first newsletter. Since arriving back from Far-North Queensland, there has been so much happening that we thought the best way to update everyone was to publish a newsletter.

This will be published regularly and will only include the good “oil” on Home Brewing and related material.

Morgans and Samuel Willards

Aussie Brewmakers is also proud to announce we are now a full-line stockist for two great Australian companies - Morgans and Samuel Willards.

Samuel Willards Premium Spirits Essence

Samuel Willards Gold Star Spirits Essence

Web Site

We are currently upgrading our photos and descriptions on the web site and should have everything completed in several weeks. Please take the time to have a look as it contains a lot of good information. Also, please remember, you only have to register on-line if you are going to make a purchase.

Brewing Weather

The footy season has finished and the weather is near perfect for the home brewer. So, now is a great time to start ‘brewing up” for Christmas and the summer months.

Air Still System Complete

There has been huge anticipation surrounding the new Still Spirits Air Still System. This package of products is the only one of its kind on the market and represents a revolutionary breakthrough in Air Still technology.

The kit contains everything including the Air Still, fermenter, hydrometers, filtration system and all the ingredients to make two batches.

Turbo Carbon

This new product from Still Spirits is now available. Used correctly, it will greatly improve the quality of your spirit.

How it works: Add to the fermenter after the yeast has been added. Then on completion of fermentation, add Turbo Clear to remove all the solids before distillation. Then after, distillation, filter as normal.

Product Testing

To enable us to provide accurate information on our products, we like to test as many as we can. We also appreciate any feedback from our customers and suppliers.

We are currently testing Turbo Carbon and are also working on the best Bundy recipe. We will publish the results in the next newsletter.

Bourbon Test

During September 2008, we conducted a blind taste test to determine the closest recipe to Jim Beam Black Label. Seven of our best selling Kentucky Bourbon essences/chips were compared against the real thing we purchased at the bottleshop. These are the results:

Winner: Essencia Bourbon Chunks (No essence used - Spirit was soaked for 7 days)

Runner Up: Samuel Willards Premium Kentucky Bourbon Essence (Added to 2.25L spirit @40%)

Recipes

If you have any good recipes for anything home brewed, please contact us and we will publish it on our web site and in this newsletter.
